Midsummer Festival Performers Application

This is the application form for Regional and Local performers, those that live between Prince George and the Queen Charlotte Islands.

We'd like to hear from performers in the Northwest who are interested in helping us celebrate this special community event. To be considered as a local or regional performer, please fill out this application form and submit a recent demo recording to help the Performers' Committee make this one of the best festivals yet. The demo need not be professional; a tape made at practice in your living room is fine. You can omit this if you sent one last year, we'll still have it on file.

Please read the information below to get a better idea of the ins and outs of the festival, and to ensure that you don't miss anything in filling out your application.

  • The deadline for receiving applications is April 1st each year.
  • Please get your application forms and demo in on time!!
  • This Festival promotes jamming as a way of enjoying your own talents and inspiring others. This part of the festival has become very popular so if you or your band members are able and willing to participate in organized jams, please be sure to indicate this on your application.
  • Because this is a small regional festival with a small budget, we can only cover mileage for one vehicle per band, group or performer.
  • We provide the sound equipment and technicians required for running a tight and enjoyable show. However, you can make our technicians job much easier by indicating your sound and stage requirements on the sheet provided.
  • Please let us know if you're going to camp and the number in your group. If you bring your vehicle inside the gates, it must stay in until you leave. A $10.00 fee will be charged for every re-entry of a vehicle into the fairgrounds.

Our grounds and security people have asked that you leave your pets at home and that if you choose to drink alcohol, you do so in moderation and only at your designated campsite. This a glass free festival so please bring beverages in cans and plastic containers only. Families are welcomed and camping is a great way to experience a musically rewarding weekend both during performances and at after hour campfires. Violence, obscenity and drunkenness are absolutely not acceptable at Festival, least of all in stage performances. Any performance unsuitable for a family audience will be terminated immediately, and any performer who shows up inebriated will have their performing privileges withdrawn.

Shared Stage Sets

This type of set involves several individuals (or perhaps duos) from different bands or solo acts, sharing a stage and taking turns playing music around a common theme. "Playing along" with another performer would certainly be acceptable where appropriate. We are listing some suggested themes based on what has been popular in past years and also some new ideas. Participation in shared stages is by invitation, but we would like to know who is interested. Feel free to list your own ideas for a theme and whether you would like to act as host. Once shared-stage participants and hosts have been finalized, each host will contact their respective participants to discuss format and possibly to arrange a time and a place on the Festival grounds to have a pre- performance practice or discussion.

Workshops

With instructional workshops, emphasis will be placed on learning, sharing and participation. We will try to give beginner to intermediate players a greater opportunity to do some hands-on learning and also provide some opportunities to advanced players as well. As a rule of thumb, the majority of participants in these instructional workshops tend to be people from the general Festival public and not necessarily performers. If you have a musical skill you feel would be appropriate in a teaching/learning environment, please indicate it in the application form.

Jam Sessions

Participating in an organized jam session is a great way to get more involved in the festival. The sessions are listed on the festival schedule, and are open to anyone who wishes to join in. They tend to feature a particular musical style or theme. There is no sound equipment in the Jam Zone.

Midsummer Festival occurs the weekend of June 20, 21 and 22, 2008. Our deadline for receiving applications is April 1st, each year. Failure to submit your application on time may result in your performance request being turned down or placed on a waiting list.

Be sure to list ALL band members' names on the application. Upload your demo recording or mail to:
